A Win and a Winning Draw

Did not find out until five o'clock tonight that France won -- apparently convincingly! Wow! I wish I could have seen it. Now they play Spain. This is not good. It will be a very tough game and my Spanish cousins will not speak to me again after they lose. Oh, well. . . I am a supporting pastor of one of my Spanish cousins. I have resolved to drop his support if Spain wins!

In the meantime, back on the ranch in the real world of brotherhood and Christian character, I played for a draw. The brother made a point to apologize to me, and assure me that he is not at all interested in making that issue divisive. I had already decided that I would just stick to more neutral elements within my presentation, but it was decidedly easier after that short conversation.

I am still bamboozled by the fact that Fundamentalists can work with 1611-ers (Yes, I have actually heard that trumpeted today), but eye with suspicion the rock solid Master's Seminary grad. Blows my mind. I delight in the catholicity of spirit that is shown toward the 1611 errors (gulp!), but wonder why in the world that same magnanimity cannot be shown to the guy who has a guitar in his worship service. Some things I will never understand.

What I do understand, however, is that we are a rag-tag band of brothers mustered out of the riff-raff of the world and entrusted with the mercy of ministry as Paul says. And truly it must be a ministry if we are used.

Oh, well. I am showing great magnanimity of soul and catholicity of spirit by following the example of Hudson Taylor and wearing what the natives wear. I have, believe it or not, been wearing a suit ALL day long.

It's green. Should be red, white, and blue. For LES BLEUS, not les flops.

I'm having fun in all of the above. This conference has actually been very, very insightful. All of our team is very glad we are here. More on that later perhaps.

Fundamentalism is definitely confusing. It just goes to show that most of what people say/believe is based on an emotional historical past. It should be based on cogent thinking, but our U.S. culture (christianity included) is intellectually lazy. That's the main reason that the Davinci Code has become such a huge cultural religious phenomenon.

Enough blogging on unimportant issues such as Fundamentalism. Stick to the important stuff: SOCCER!

I'm sure the natives appreciated the fact that you blended in by wearing their native dress.
I don't know what the big deal is about the KJV...we all know that the Reina-Valera is better because it was put together in 1609! :)

I agree with Matthew--stick to soccer!

LOL, I just told Uncle Bob yesterday that when I need to understand something from the KJV I just pull out my Reina-Valera.

Liz and Matthew, you going to start feuding? Big game coming up, however, Mexico is totally over-matched. I think that Argentina plays Spain in the final (unfortuneately I think argentina wins)

I hope you're right, Chris! I think Germany is going to play a tough game next Friday--after we beat Mexico today--but they're beatable.
I don't think Mexico has snowflake's chance in hell today. So I really don't know what there's to fight with Matt about. :)

LOL, glad I don't have to stand up for my little brother. Germany looked impressive, but anyone would as much room as Sweden was giving them. I think their defense is too weak to face the Crespo/Saviola/Riquelme/Tevez/Messi offensive jugernaut.

Congrats Argentina and Mexico. Well fought game. I really didn't think that Mexico would hang with Argentina.

Man, what a tough game! Mexico wasn't easy to beat--great game! I chewed off a few finger nails.
Mexico played a lot better than expected. Argentina didn't play a good first half, but showed their true colors in the end. :)

Again. I missed out on some exciting games because of my commitment to ministry. I hope you all are impressed by my self-denial (and to the fact that I bear my cross so quietly).

Well, I´m glad someone was ministering while we sat in front of our televisions! Your reward in heaven will be great!
On a more earthly note:
Make sure you catch Maxi Rodriguez´s awesome goal!

Wow! That was quite a game and an awesome goal. I also picked Argentina to knock off Mexico, but I also fully expected it to be a tough, hard-fought game. Mexico ALWAYS plays Argentina tough and ALWAYS loses in the end. The Mexicans have a saying, "Jugamos como nunca y perdimos como siempre." In English, "We played like we've never played before and we lost like we've always lost before." Anyway, congrats to the Argentines. Now they can finish off Germany. Germany's slow and mistake-prone defense will be shown up.

I hope we can pull it off and finish Germany off for you. :)
I loved the saying. Made me laugh. Very hispanic. :)
¡¡¡Vamos Argentina!!!
